As you may be aware, US Youth Soccer (USYS) is implementing major changes which will take effect in 2017. To be compliant with MYSA and WYSA rules, ECU will be adopting these changes, including:
-Moving to calendar-year age groups (Jan 1-Dec 31) for team formation. This will significantly change how teams will be formed, as the players will be grouped by calendar year instead of by school year.
-Increasing the number of players per side at U9/U10 and U11/U12.
-Changing field size and goal size for U9/U10 and U11/U12.
-Adding offsides and modifying the rules regarding goalkeeper possession and distribution at U9/U10.
ECU is actively working on a developing a transition plan. We are sensitive to the impact this will have on our current players (especially U11-U13) and we are evaluating our options to make the transition as smooth as possible. We hope to have a plan for recommendation and approval at the February board meeting.
We know these changes are significant, and WE WELCOME YOUR CONSTRUCTIVE INPUT as we work toward a smooth transition. At the January board meeting, we will have time dedicated to a review of the options and the recommended transition plan, leading to a decision by the February board meeting. There will be a forum for feedback from members. If you would like to contribute, please plan to attend on MONDAY, JANUARY 25TH AT 7 PM.
